Buzzing around St. Comgall's!
Over the past number of months, our pupils have enthusiastically taken part in the Heritage Keepers initiative, exploring and learning about their local area and its native species. This engaging programme has inspired a wonderful sense of curiosity and pride in our natural surroundings.
As part of the project, the pupils decided to create a vibrant bee garden at the back of the school. This exciting initiative provided a hands-on opportunity to support local biodiversity while bringing learning to life in a meaningful way.
We were delighted to welcome local beekeeper, Mr. Thomas McCaffrey, who delivered a fascinating and informative presentation. He shared his knowledge on the life cycle of bees, the process of honey production, and the crucial role bees play in sustaining our environment. His visit truly sparked interest and enthusiasm among the pupils.
A special word of thanks goes to Mr. Aubrey McAllister, who carefully designed and created a beautiful garden space tailored to attract bees. The area is now filled with a variety of colourful, bee-friendly flowers and has quickly become a thriving and lively habitat.
This project has been a wonderful success, combining learning, creativity, and environmental awareness in a fun and memorable way. 🐝🌸
By the end of the project, our pupils had not only developed a strong understanding of bees and their importance to the environment, but they also cultivated a sense of responsibility for protecting local wildlife. It’s an initiative that truly brought learning to life—and one we’ll be proud of for a long time to come. 🐝🌼
